Hey Blog,
I went resume dropping 2 days ago to a variety of retail clothing stores and belived it to be quite successful. Most places said that they were in fact looking for casual staff and two stores gave me an interview right on the spot! Cha ching.
My employmnent consultant (let's call him Jim) actually contacted one of the stores (let's call it "David Roger") before I took my resume there as they had advertised a position on seek. So with Jim's intention of helping me to score a job (and meet his monthly KPI's) he spoke to the David Roger manager and did his best to sell me and explain my suitability for the job. The manager obviously liked what she heard and agreed with Jim that I should bring myself and my resume to the store that afternnon so that she could meet me in person.
When I met the manager (lets call her Jane) she was very happy with my presentation, skills and personalitly and wanted me to meet with her manager right away so that I could get started as soon as possible.
Jane called her manager (who was working at another store nearby) and told her all about me and my suitability for the position. When Jane got off the phone she expressed her manager's concern that I was coming from an employment agency and would mena that the store would have to pay the agency a fee to hire me.
I explained that this wasn't the case as the service is associated with Centrelink and simply guides me in finding work but doesn't actually find the job for me, so there are no costs involved in hiring me. I tried to explain this as best I could without saying that the service is actually a Disability Employment Service that Centrelink had referred me to.
Jane then understood and said that unfortunatley her manager was carrying out stocktake so she couldn't meet with me that afternoon anyway. Jane said that the manager was doing some interviews in 2 days time and that I could meet with her for an interview at 3pm.
So last nigth I laid out my outfit all ready for todays interview. I then recived a call fro Jane at 12noon today telling me very apologetically that even though she knows there are no fees involved I can't be interviewd today because her manager doesn't want to hire someone that has come through an employment service. Jane said that her manager prefers that I apply throught he Seek advertisement like the other candidates and agin said sorry.
Ooooooo K. I thanked her anyway and we said goodbye.
I then lay in bed for a few extra hrs.
So now to tell Jim that his best efforts kind of backfired and for me to go back to the job hunting board....when I find a reason to.
I guess as they say "when one door closes, another door opens." So with the number of doors that I have already seen close I must be getting closer to the last door on the planet that has hidden behind it an incredibly large house (with cleaners included), a miniature pony, a large block of land, 3 cars, a massage therapist and enough bedrooms for my closest friends, family and pets.
So I guess if I pull together the motivation to continue on this seemingly pointless (job finding) journey I will get closer to the bright blue door with the gold knocker.
See you soon door ;)
Amy x
